La Ceiba Honduras Feb 15 Time is a flying so we are headed to marina to lv Attitude
for our annual Whistler ski trip in March. Lagoon Marina, nice place Lone
Star Love was there so we got the scoop of the area. Will ski and than head
to Cincy 1st of April to meet new granddaughter Ella. Back to Attitude the
11th , haul out paint bottom and hope to be back on our way by end of the
month..Im all caught up now and will keep it coming... stay tune!!!!
Feb 7th-15 West End Roatan: checking out other side of island its also a
wonderful dive area. Largest crab I have ever seen, lots of trunk and
porcupine fish(which I love to watch) .Shamul, Ohanna and Yamana all show up
in anchorage. Fun having happy hrs on ea boat. Neil acquired a friend on one
of our last dives. This poor shark sucker was trying and trying to attach
himself to N. Really 10 mins. the little guy kept trying to hook onto the
hair on his legs.. Very funny and where oh where was the camera when I
needed it! N was out and up on dinghy 1st and the little guy was frantic
under the dinghy looking for him! Most people have pet dogs or cats maybe
even a parrot on board not Attitude. I discovered a gecko , so cute he just
hangs on the bookshelf.. His name is Julio in case you wondered. V-day got
to celebrate right. Dave and Louise on Expectations took us to a bar so we
could try MONKEY LA LA’s (strong drink) I think we all had a good Valentines
day????
Feb. 2nd Full moon so ya have to party.
Had Privilege 4 & Mutu over for painkillers beautiful night. We may be far
from the U.S. but super bowl is still a big deal. A lg yacht w/ a helicopter
just anchored in. The plan was to get invited on board to watch.. It was
only a plan. We sat at Fantasy Island with Winterlude (from Indiana, who was
in this yr) and watched a big screen with the other gringos.. Met up with
Shamul (Sherrie & Bob) did some fantatic dives. Marys place lots of caves
and swim throughs was a favorite. These dives have lots of turtles and we
saw a great huge octopus out on a rock.. Lov’in it!
Jan 30 -Feb 7th French Harbor Cay/Roatan/HONDURAS: Fantastic sail to French
harbor hit 9.5 knots and caught a 10 lb black fin YUM we love our sushimi!
Huge shrimp boats at dock..So we dinghy over Neil climbs on side and asks if
they can sell us some.. Great we end up with 6 lbs, which Attitude,
Winterlude and Privilege 4 all enjoyed that night.. Hung at Fantasy Island
resort for a drink on the beach.
Jan 15-29 Light House: ok all we had heard is how great Light House was.
Absolutely true. We hooked up w/ Expectations for a bit did some great
dives. 15 ft Nurse shark I almost sat on. Spent most time alone or w/
Expectations or Privilege 4. The Big dive boats like the Aggressor & Nekton
Pilot were in and out but that was fine they would fill our tanks for us!
There was a sm building on shore so off I go in my kayak to explore. A women
rides a bike up and tells me she bought land on the net, came there & built..
AND she is from Cincinnati, world is way to sm!. Loved to kayak to shore and
hunt hrs an hrs. lots of crab so Im thinking “great happy hr snack right”
well at least 1 hr later and a major pinched hand and fingers I gave up...
ok ok the crab is smarter than I am! Ok we all have birds land once in a
while on the deck right? Well we had a seagull hanging out for hrs! This guy
just landed in the cockpit and just walked around. Neil and I came out and
sat with him, really I think he liked our music.. Either that or it was my
dad check’in up on us.(he passed in Nov) He always said he wished he was
with us.. Who knows ha! Neil kept us in fish the whole time in L.H. but our
Belize time is up..
Dec 29- Jan 7 Glory Cut, Colson ,Garbutt and HudsonCay&Turneff: Glory is one
of our favorite places we anchor out in the middle of the sea near a cut in
the reef. Fantastic snorkeling spear fishing &diving plus your all alone .
Garbutt was fun sm fishing shack on spit of sand did my kayak thing and
hunted for hours! Great lobster hook up at Hudson. We didn’t find any but a
local guy came up in very sm row boat we got lobster and he got batteries.
Not bad huh! Hudson back to Turneffe (heading for Light House) we had our
own personal guides, dolphins right into the anchorage.. Fun..This time at
Turneffe we did lots of snorkeling&spear diving. Nice lg nurse sharks just
chill’in .I saw the biggest rays( manta and spotted eagle) I have ever seen!
Ea snorkel we saw a ton I felt like I was in a sci-fi movie!
Dec24-28 Sapodilla Bay: Spent a nice quite Xmas with Winterlude(Jan &
David), Neil like always cooked a fab dinner! Ok lets kayak Jan, David and
I, miles and miles of sm channels in the mangroves we went, hrs too I think,
To end up nowhere but it was fun to watch us all duck trees and spiders.
Dec 22 South Long Cay Yea off to islands..Nice water good snorkeling,
eagle rays, file fish. Auto pilot still not working right! But hey its
beautiful.. Plus Neil picked mangrove oysters for our happy hr. Heading for
Turneffe sm. Break in reef sure we can get in.. Beep beep beep crap all
instruments are blank!! Not good. But we get in its to shallow so oh well
lets head to other side. Man xmas is coming we need a nice place.
Dec.7 Placencia BELIZE: Still having major issues with Auto Pilot comp..
Just a short(2mi) hike to airport checking for pkg(new one on its way) in
the HEAT& sweating..3 different days. Hey just means we can eat and drink
more. Found a great Italian rest. Which we ate at so often the owner just
brought our plates out! Well we did buy a case a wine from him. Hanging at
anchor we see jellyfish we don’t recognize(at least not on a 1st name
basis)So Neil grabs one with a bucket. We know know a cannon ball jelly cool
huh they are hard like a bowling ball!
Dec.5 Rio Dulce GUATEMALA: ok time to get out of here, we head out of Tijax
and head for Livingston, the mouth of the river and a sandbar passing. SOOO
with a 6'9 draft we have to wait for the high tide. Cool all planned. Its
5:30 close enough to high tide WRONG.. We get maybe ½ way across and bump!
Stuck.. Ok we will wait after all. Here we sit now in the rain, with our
foul weather gear on and a cup of soup for dinner. Man we could have been
Cambells soup add.
Tres Puntas for a night and over to Gracesoso Bay
Oct Nov: Im back & forth to States (father passed) and girls come to visit.
Met Cari & Christine in G city then went back to Antigua to hike Pacaya
again. . We are tour guides by now although in the few months that passed
the hike is completely different. No more flowing lava but lots of hard
volcanic rock & the higher you go the hotter is was. Poor N we hear ouch
ouch as he attemps to run down from where he had climbed.. The closer he
gets we can smell the issue, his leg hair had been burnt right off his legs!!
Oh well don’t swimmer shave maybe this will help him in the water.
Sept hanging in Tijax Eugine(owner) asks if we would kayak around for his
friends doing a Norwegian Cruise line commercial. Cool our claim to fame ,
look for us on TV ha! Tijax is like walking around in the animal planet
program. I found these cool thorns on a tree nice purple color but hey they
move awesome they were bugs
Time for a rd trip. Umiak,Thalassa,Neil and I head for Tikal,(fantastic
Mayan ruins in the middle of Jungle. These suckers are still being dug up it
was Awesome)! Hired a guy to drive all 5 to Flores a nice little tourist
town which is an island. Only a 3 hr ride no biggy. Coming around a cornor
and down hill WOA what are all the police cars for ?? Driver tries to slow
up!! Seriously slow motion going on as we all brace ourselves and the van is
doing 360's into a wall of ROCK! We hit, everyone looks around all ok! Poor
driver is shaking but he pulls back onto rd. heading down hill. Here the
cops stop us(this is why they were there) to tell us the rd is slippery!
DAH! This just adds to our adventure right! Tijax is like walking around in
the animal planet program. I found these cool thorns on a tree nice purple
color but hey they move awesome they were bugs!
Aug.6 -Aug20 Vacationed in Nig ,Managua,Tolas,Pie de Giante,Masaya,Grenada,
Las Isletas,Lake Nig.,Mombocho Volcano(another great hike but to cloudy to
see anything)& Largo Apoyo. Loved Nic and plan to head with Attitude next
time.
Aug 4 buss’in to Guatemala City-Antigua, a 6hr bus ride to G City was not as
bad as it sounded we did get 2 ninja movies and it wasn’t even a chicken
bus. Another hr to Antigua where we stayed at Casa Capchimas. The plan is to
hike Pacaya volcano w/Mr before he heads home. 5am an hr ride up to base we
are dropped off and sm kids run up to RENT us sticks to hike with, Ok they
want 2 Q (30cents)and you know Neil he bargained with the poor kid and got 3
for 5.. Always looking for the discount! Pacaya was AWESOME flowing lava
passing as we hiked !!! Mr heading home& we head back to G city to hook up
with friends Mike & Lynn
Staying at Pasada Berlin, great little house, courtyard with turtles, good
food and all the guys are super friendly(meaning they know when to bring me
a cubalibre)! We all hit the huge market teaching M&L how to bargain as they
supply their house in Nig.
-JULY:Tijax Jungle Lodge is our home for the next few months.. The place is
beautiful, nice pool hiking trails, a small spring pond off one trail
long/high swinging bridges and a tower in the middle of a rubber tree
plantation which you can hike to. We get comfy here. I hike to tower and do
yoga almost everyday. Kayak 2 miles across the river to hang w/ the howler
monkeys(which mr ,Cari and Christine all got to see while here ) The pool
became a great place for happy hrs! I hear N jump back on boat, grab the
binos and run off yelling come see this. Ok I follow onto a sm swinging
bridge on the trail. Up in a tree is a 7 ft snake /1 ½ in diameter WITH a
bird the size of a big crow in its mouth.. Just by the beak.. Im talking
discovery channel stuff. Well it took him hrs but the snake had a big meal
that day. Next day hanging at pool N says AH look behind you, so this time
we have a 8ft green snake on a plant next to me.. Cool huh. We were told
because of the flooding they were all over. If snakes aren't enough we have
the bats!! Seems they like to hang under our big boat cover we put up!ICK I
hate bats.. N decides to string fish line all over to get in there way so
they wont come under. SO ea. Day goes up more string than he adds cd’s on
string. Hey I have no clue someone told him that will interfere with the
bats???
Dinghy down to San Phillpe Fort a few miles down river, nice park and
grounds
July 14 The RIO Dulce Guatemala: time to hide for Hurricane season. Rumor
has it the sand bar at the entrance is very shallow and if more than 6ft
draft you should not attempt to go in,Well ok, ya know we are going to try .
We have a 6ft 9in.. But, we follow Umiak in as they read off depths.. No
problema! Go into Livingston to check in and we are on our way following a
beautiful gorge down the through the gorge and anchor at Cayo Grande for the
night. Next day we have 4 hours down the river to the mariana in Frontiers.
Neil and Mr pass the time with a sling shot lesson while Im polishing
stainless. Hey something is wrong in this pic don’t you think.
June 12 -15 heading for Ambergris Belize storms off and on and the f’in auto
pilot is still on the fritz! Middle of the night N yells for me, I need to
steer. N below on repair ,which is under bed the whole cabin is torn up
plus the forward cabin cuz you know all the parts are in there right! Ok we
got rain, we got wind ,we got N below yelling instructions THAN we
got“something” fly past me and land on deck” really the sky was falling! So
now Im yelling come up w/ flash light I think the sky is falling or the mast
it coming apart! Im at the helm I cant go look! N not a happy camper comes
up grumbling. FLYING FISH ,poor guy took a bad flight pattern...hit bimini
and landed on deck..... Boy are we having fun now. Huge storm, crap boom
flys over “did we brake a batten?”NO!!!! as is turns out 20 knots of wind
moderate seas N is climbing up to take out 3 broken battens which all have
very little screws..ok all is not lost, we ,ok Neil landed a 56 in dolphin
YUM and his little brother was on the 2nd line. Well we are not’t
staving(yet) so lil bro was set free.
Into Ambergris fantastic clear water I head to states until July
July, Ambergris,Bluefield Range: Back on Attitude w/ Mr(grandson,Mr or
a.k.a. Jarrid).Water here is fantastic snorkeling for 5hrs! we saw huge
eagle rays, electric rays, scorpion
fish, lg eyed toad fish and some cute porcupine fish.. We even did some
lobster hunting, Mr was having fun spotting them for us. Also swam around
with the dolphins and a manatee!
Spruce Cay-Placencia Belize, “the fish story”Nice sail... ZING......man oh
man we have a huge fish quick get the belt!! Neil is running around ,mr is
handing him things . Wow its moving forward.. And BIG. In all the commotion
I am watching Umiak(buddy boat) pass slowly by and they seem to be going the
same way & speed our HUGE fish is going HUMMM. Lets just say we caught the
biggest one yet a 42 ft Catalina!! Umiak had crossed the fishing line and it
hooked on his prop but we were lucky and it worked its way off w/o anyone
going overboard. On our way to Rio Dulce Guatemala that was absolutleyly our
biggest catch.
June 7th: so this is the fantastic Grand Cayman, well we see rain rain and
more rain. Im talking a weeks worth. The good news we caught 2 tuna on the
way! But hey while we are here lets see about opening a bank account ,you
know just in case we win the lottery and need to stash some bucks. OK its
not like TV or movies. 1st you have to have a physical address, a letter
from someone saying WHERE you got your big bucks etc etc, man we thought you
walk in with a big suitcase full of bills, oh well! We did find a good place
to stock up. Filled 3 grocery carts 3x’s , crossed the rd , down hill in
sand to the dinghy, ahh convenience!
